Description
The Greenhouse Worker/Mobile Market Driver position will be responsible for loading, unloading, sorting, inventorying, issuing food and items in the warehouse, yard, or food pantry. This position will drive the Mobile Market Bus, seasonally.
Full Time, Non-Exempt
Located: On-site
Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.96
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and, two years of previous farming and/or greenhouse experience and/or training; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the regulations of the, U.S. Department of Health and the NYS Department of Social Services as they pertain to food service. Knowledge of all current food sanitization practices.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Driver's License. Must complete certification to operate forklift within introductory period.
This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification within the first 30 days of hire. Re-certification will be required as specified by DOT guidelines. Please note that the cost of the certification exam only will be covered by JCEO, but any additional associated costs (e.g., medical evaluations or appointments) will be the responsibility of the employee.

- Prepares and stocks mobile buses for deliveries.
- Assists in preparation of seedlings to be transplanted in the gardens.
- Daily monitoring of all seedlings grown in the greenhouses, spraying and weed control of vegetables.
- Harvests vegetables and prepares them for the Food Pantry.
- Inspects and maintains truck, forklift, and tractor equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
- Operates the forklift in compliance with OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck requirements.
- Completes runs to the sanitation station as needed.
- Assists with and maintains a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse in accordance with New York State Health Department and Agency policies and procedures.
- Stocks Food Pantry daily /rotates all foods regularly paying special attention to expiration dates.
- Completes intake information for all households requesting emergency food packages and refers to appropriate resources.
- Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements
- May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, moving furniture, or other similar activities
- Performs limited grounds maintenance such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.
- Attends all required training.
- Maintains compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of Joint Council for Economic Opportunity, Inc.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
